Learning the rules
for the board game Life is not a hard process. This is why it is
so simple for anybody to play the game. The main thing that you need
to know is that the game of Life has changed a lot over the years.
The fact of the matter is that as the world has changed, this board
game has been kept up to date as well. This has gone a long way in
making Life an enjoyable game for everybody who plays it.
After you have the board game set up, you are ready to get started.
Each player needs to choose a colored car as their playing piece. It
does not really matter which one you choose; they all act in the
same way.
At the beginning of the game, you will notice that there are two
routes that you can follow. They are career and college. When you
select the career route you will get off to a better start because
you will not incur immediate debt. On the other side of things, in
the newest version of Life, starting off on the college route means
that you will also start off in debt. While this may sound like a
no-brainer to choose the career route, when you go to college you
have a much better chance of landing a better career, and in turn,
making more money along the way.
For many years, the majority of spaces on the board have been
yellow. One exception is the green spaces which are known as “Pay
Days.” Obviously, these are something that you want to keep an eye
on; at least if you want to win. Red spaces are used to show a major
life changing event such as getting married, graduating, retiring,
or buying a home. Blue spaces are known as “decision spaces.” If you
land on one of these you can decide to follow the instructions or
skip it altogether. You will have to decide on this based on the way
that the game is progressing.
There are many special spaces that you will come across when playing
the game. For instance, in the 1992 version of the game, the “Life
Tiles” were introduced. A Life Tile signifies a major event such as
curing the cold, etc. When you get one of these, you are ensured of
a tile ranging in value from $10,000 to $50,000. Upon retiring,
these are flipped over and the player collects his or her money.
As the years go by, the rules that govern Life are going to change.
But instead of worrying about the future, play the version of the
game that you have with the rules that are outlined for you. Each
game comes with a rule booklet that will help you to get started if
you are struggling.
