There are many components that make up the game of Stratego. First
off, you need to know that two players are needed in order to get
started. Each player has 40 pieces, and the board itself is 10
squares by 10 squares. This is a reasonably sized game, and one that
you should be able to find room for no matter how much space you
have in your home. It is the same size box as normal board games
like Monopoly.
The many pieces in the game of Stratego, ranked highest to lowest,
include: one marshal, one general, two colonels, three majors, four
captains, four lieutenants, four sergeants, five miners, eight
scouts, and one Spy. As you can imagine, knowing what each one of
these pieces can do for you is a large part of the strategy for the
game. Just like any other board game, when you know the
Stratego rules you will have a much better chance of winning.
As the name of the game implies, Stratego is most definitely a game
of strategy. The main objective of the game is to capture the flag
that is held by your opponent, or to take so many of their pieces
that they have nowhere to go. All of this while protecting your own
flag. Either way, if you can accomplish one of these goals you will
come out a winner in the long run.
There are many variations of Stratego that you may also want to
consider. Even though the original board game still remains popular,
updated and modern versions have been released over the years. Some
of the updated games include the Stratego CD Rom, Ultimate Stratego,
Stratego Library Edition, and several others. Of course, not all of
these are still being produced, but you should still be able to find
them for sale on the after market. One of the best places to find
out of print games is on Ebay and other online auction sites. On a
more local basis, I often find cool games at local yard sales.
As far as strategy is concerned, there are three things that you
will want to keep in mind.
1. Place your original pieces to protect your flag, while also doing
what you can to confuse your opponent as to its whereabouts.
2. Make your strongest pieces available to be on the attack when
necessary.
3. Keep a close watch on what your opponent is doing. This will
reveal a little bit about their strategy, and may give you the
information you need to win the game.
All in all, the game of Stratego has been popular for many years. As
long as there are still people who love to strategize, this board
game will never become obsolete.
