If you are like most people who play
bridge, your main goal is to win the game. After all, what fun would
it be if you lost every time that you played? But as you can
imagine, you need to know how to keep a Bridge score if you
are going to know who wins each game. Luckily, you can learn the
scoring process of bridge in no time at all.
As you can imagine, the main point of bridge is for each partnership
to score as many points as possible. If you have more than the other
team at the end of the game, you are going to be the winner when
everything is said and done.
There are several points that you need to know as far as scoring is
concerned. When the declarer meets the contract, they receive points
for the following:
1. Bonuses for meeting the contract level
2. Other game bonuses that may have been outlined before the start
3. Every trick bid
4. Tricks that are taken in excess of the contract level
On the other side of things, the declarer is not always going to
meet the contract. When this happens, the other team receives points
based on the under tricks. This is the number of tricks that the
declarer fell short of reaching the contract level.
As far as bonuses are concerned, these can change from game to game.
Depending on the type of bridge that you are playing, you may have
the ability to collect game, small slam, and grand slam bonuses. It
is important that you are aware of the bonuses that are in play
before you actually begin a hand.
All in all, a lot of the scoring process has to do with the type of
bridge that you are playing. For instance, the scoring with contract
bridge is not going to be the same with Chicago, duplicate bridge,
etc. So once again, you need to know what type of bridge you are
playing, as well as the scoring that govern each game.
Bridge scoring is something that you will learn as you continue to
play more and more. This is one aspect of bridge that can be hard to
learn on paper. But luckily, once you see a game scored in front of
you, you will have a much better understanding of what you are
dealing with.
