Back in the old days, say about
twenty years ago, most families spent their Sunday afternoons
gathering around in the living room or family area of their own
respective houses. They spent a great deal of time playing card
games. The whole idea was to have fun while spending quality time
with the kids and family. It was a great time then, and many young
adults today reminisce about fond memories of the good old days when
dad intentionally lost in favor of the younger kid, giving up the
cards while secretly winking at mom.
In the advent of modern technology, video games have replaced
playing cards in most household living rooms. Teenagers often play
games for many hours, and the focus of playing video games is the
hand to eye coordination. However, this has deprived the families of
gathering socially with each other and sharing fun games along with
simple living. Much of this has now been replaced by solitude and
the individualistic type of games brought by modern living.
But there are still families who have not abandoned age old
traditions and ways of life, who still believe in simple things. And
to those people who want simple and fun times with their families,
here’s what you need: An ample sized table, comfortable chairs, and
a deck of cards. It would helpful too if you have prepared snacks
for added fun and togetherness. Go on and play cards, be spontaneous
and competitive with each other. The idea is to have fun and not to
win, as losing in the family card game is sometimes worth more than
winning.
Classic games
Among the old popular classics are the bridge, pairs, go fish, crazy
eight, old maid, solitaire, rummy, and even poker. Most old people
know a lot of that games and tricks played on it, being an old form
of amusement, playing cards hails back as early as 13th century and
hundred upon hundred of games along with it has been invented. A
little advice though, if possible try not to involve betting when
playing cards. Monetary involvement usually puts card playing in a
different light, the tension and competitiveness brought about by
money involve melts the wholesome image of family togetherness.
Contemporary games
Different rules and schemes are also being developed and invented
for playing pleasure; sometimes cards are being combined with
different playing materials such as board games and even with DVDs
or CDs. There are a lot of new innovative games available for you.
Today, playing cards has evolved into more amusing hours of playing.
Cards are not only confined to playing alone, but can now be
purchased for collecting enjoyment. Card collectors around the world
search for rare and wonderful collectible cards, complete with
holograms from their favorite NBA player to their much loved movie
such as Star wars or animated characters.
Educational games
In Japan, pre school teachers use cards to play games with a touch
of history. With the rules and objectives derived from the popular
card games of Pokemon, kids play cards with display figures of
historical characters and written events. Entertaining is not the
only purpose of card games; in various parts of the world cards are
being use to instruct knowledge among kids. Card games are also
being mix and matched to different board and card games in order to
create fusion and newer games for enjoyment.
